THOUGHTLESS parents have been told not to put their children's lives at risk by parking "willy nilly" near a Wrexham school.

Access has become so bad outside the gates of Brynteg CP School that the school minibus has struggled to squeeze between badly parked vehicles.

Now head teacher Rachael Connell has issued parents with a warning amid growing concerns that the emergency services could find themselves blocked in.

She told them via a social media post "If the minibus can't get through neither will an ambulance or fire engine. How would you feel if your child needed urgent medical care and didn't get it because the ambulance couldn't get through?"

Cars have been left congesting the mini roundabout on Maesteg immediately outside the school gates, while they have also been left blocking neighbouring drives on Maesteg and Brynteg Crescent.

"There is very limited parking spaces outside the school and it has been getting very congested. We are concerned that children aren't going to be able to go home safely," said the head teacher.

"The school minibus comes in and out to pick and drop off children every day and it can be almost impossible to get past."

The headteacher is asking parents to look for alternative parking away from the built-up area and says there is ample space next to the scout hut on Quarry Road.

"There is a footpath they can take from there that leads up to the school buildings so it shouldn't be an inconvenience and it is just a case of common sense."

The traffic hazards have caused a headache for minibus driver Sonia Bell as she ferries pupils on and off the education site.

Ms Bell, who helps run Brynteg's after-school club said: "The problem has been getting worse lately, particularly around 3pm. I make a couple of journeys in and out to take the children to the after-school club and it is really difficult to get through the roundabout. Sometimes I have to wait for parents to come back to their cars."
