PUPILS from a Wrexham school went back to the future.

Year 6 children from Acton Park Primary School have been travelling back through time to learn about decades that followed the Second World War, from the fifties right through the noughties.

With fashion often providing a defining visual factor to any decade, they had a 'wear your own clothes day' with a difference as the pupils raided the back catalogue of family wardrobes and brought the past back to life.

Diane Millington, Year 6 teaching assistant said: "The children have been learning about fashion, music, events and popular culture throughout the different decades since the Second World War.

"It followed on from last term, when they did a project called 'Blitz and Blobs' and the children have found it really interesting to see what has changed through the years."

The pupils were encouraged not to buy clothes to wear for the dressing up day with plenty of encouragement being given to see what family members had in their wardrobes.

Mrs Millington added: "But the thing with fashion is, it always reoccurs, so plenty of the children found items of clothing they own now that could be passed off as something from the 1950's.

"The day was about them putting together everything they have learnt and getting a feel for how life was like across the decades."
