A MOTORIST consumed by road rage kicked out at a Mercedes car he had pursued, a court heard.

Kevin Bailey from Gresford chased after the vehicle after its driver Simon Austin made a rude gesture at him on the A534 at Llan Y Pwll on the outskirts of Wrexham.

Prosecutor John Wilde told North East Wales Magistrates Court that Bailey’s red Audi overtook Mr Austin at speed, veering close by.

Angered by the gesture, Bailey broke hard in front of the Mercedes and stopped at a road junction and ran towards Mr Austin’s car.

“The traffic cleared and Mr Austin was able to drive away, but as he did so he heard two large bangs to the back of his car,” said Mr Wild.

“The defendant had connected with a kick and caused a dent to the back wing of the vehicle.”

Bailey was shown the dashcam of the incident when he was interviewed by police, but he denied kicking the car.

Brian Cross, defending, said: "He fully accepts he shouldn’t have behaved in this way.

"He lost his temper, but the damage was relatively minor.

“He wasn’t charged with dangerous driving."

Bailey, 37, of Pant Lane, admitted criminal damage of an unknown value on May 8 last year.

Magistrates fined Bailey £300 and ordered him to pay £250 compensation to the other motorist.

He was also told to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
