Rescued tractor driver in hospital after becoming trapped during mountain blaze near Llangollen

Ambulance were called at 4.22pm in Tan Y Graig in Corwen on Tuesday, February 26.

The driver was initially taken to Wrexham Maelor General Hospital.

Firefighters are still at the scene of the fire in Glyndyfrdwy.

North Wales Fire and Rescue service were called at 3.59pm on Tuesday.

There are four crews in attendance from Wrexham, Flint, Ruthin and Bala.

About 500 metres of the blaze is currently inaccessible.

Staff from Denbighshire Council's countryside service have been requested to provide assistance to help access the area.

In regards to the tractor driver, a spokesperson from the Welsh Ambulance service said: "We responded with a rapid response vehicle and an emergency ambulance."

A spokesperson from North Wales Fire and Rescue service added: "We attended an road traffic collision. One crew from Llangollen attended.

The tractor driver was trapped and had to be assisted. He received oxygen and first aid."

Following the fire, North Wales Police put out a tweet to residents asking them to keep all windows and doors shut.

They posted: "We are advising residents of the #Glyndyfrdwy area to keep all windows and doors shut following the mountain fire this evening. The fire is under control, but we are asking people to avoid the area as North Wales Fire and Rescue Service are still in attendance."

No more details at this time are available in relation to the injuries suffered by the tractor driver.
