A WOMAN raised hundreds of pounds by shaving her head for charity.

Jackie Roberts, from Gwernaffield, went bald in support of her granddaughter who is battling a rare form of cancer.

Lisa Jones, 32, has recently completed her chemotherapy for triple negative breast cancer, a rare form of the disease.

Jackie organised the event on January 19 which also included refreshments, a raffle and various stalls and raised about £1,500.

She told the Leader: "It was fantastic, absolutely brilliant. I've never seen a turnout like it in the village, I was so surprised.

"I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part, it was brilliant.

"Having no hair feels liberating and people say it suits me. It's only hair, it will grow back and it was for a good cause. I was trying to get my granddaughter to laugh a bit and make her feel comfortable.

"We are thinking of doing another one in June where all cancer charities can come and have their own stall."

Lisa was already given the all clear following a cervical cancer diagnosis, only for it to return in the rare form of breast cancer.

The proceeds raised from the night have been donated to charity.
