A FLINTSHIRE town celebrated St. David's Day early this year with a celebration of Welsh culture, youth and identity.

The event was held in the centre of Flint in front of St Mary’s Church on Church Street, on Friday.

Crowds enjoyed Welsh themed performances from local schools and local musicians. The annual event is organised in partnership with Flintshire County Council, Flint Town Council and Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam, an independent community organisation working to increase and strengthen the use of Welsh locally.

The Mayor of Flint announced the winners of the St. David’s window decorating competition, which was Nightingale House Hospice.

Councillor Billy Mullin said: "This was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to celebrate our proud Welsh culture and heritage. This annual event brings together everyone in the local community.

"I’m glad so many people came to celebrate and support local schools and musicians.”

Councillor David Cox, town mayor, said: “Flint Town Council is delighted to support this event celebrating youth and culture in Wales.”

"It’s great every year to see so many local people coming out to watch the performances and join in the fun. The Saint David’s Day Celebrations are now established as a popular event in the town calendar.

"We look forward to seeing them continue to grow and continue to bring the community together in the future.

I would like to thank Flintshire County Council and Flint Town Council for their support which made the celebrations possible.

"We are also grateful yet again to St Mary’s and St David’s Church for the warm welcome and practical help! It was also nice to have the company of the Mayor of Flint who announced the winners of the Window Dressing Competition and awarded the prizes."
