A LOCAL school has received a very successful report from ESTYN after the organisation inspected them in January.

Acton Park Primary School in Wrexham were monitored during the week of January, 14, and have since been praised upon the improvements made against the recommendations from the previous core inspection.

Positives that were highlighted in the report included writing, mathematical development, children’s independent skills and the school’s overall tracking and marking systems.

The report stated: “The introduction of a range of new teaching techniques has had a positive impact on the writing skills of most pupils.

“Many pupils in the foundation phase demonstrate a sound understanding of numeracy that they apply successfully to solve simple calculations as part of mathematics lessons and in their wider topic work.

“In key stage 2, many teachers provide purposeful opportunities for pupils to apply their literacy and numeracy skills in rich cross-curricular tasks, using imaginative or real-life contexts.”

The report went on to recognise the hard work of the school staff and governors as well as the children.

“The headteacher has worked effectively with leaders and staff to develop a vision for the school that focuses clearly on improving the quality of provision and raising standards.”

Peter Cuff, Chair of Governors for Acton Park Primary said:

“The school are very proud of their achievements, but, as always, we are keen to make further improvements in order to continue their learning journey.

“The new school development plan focuses on continuing to improve the children’s writing skills across the school and especially the children’s ability to produce extended pieces of writing.

“The school are continuing to improve the children’s educational experiences when accessing activities with our outdoor provision areas and we will focus on developing our children’s speaking and listening skills even further.”
