ORGANISERS of a prom appeal have been inundated with donations to make the occasion affordable for everyone.

Lisa McKessy-Schofield, of Loose Ladies radio show, had the initial idea to appeal for donations of prom dresses and suits to help families struggling and her co-presenter Lynne Chick was fully on board with it.

Lynne told the Leader that the duo wanted to help as many people as they could and spread the message that it is okay to ask for help.

She said: "It's gone really well, we've been inundated with donations and we've got a suitcase full of lads suits and dresses. Some of them are unbelievable, you can tell they have been really expensive and some of them handmade and we are still getting donations in.

"It's all coming in but we need to get them out to people. It may be a bit early but people will start to look for prom items now.

"Proms are so expensive and people can go through anything like a bereavement and not be able to afford it. One little girl we know can't get out to shops because she has severe anxiety so we get to help with that as well.

"We want to get the message out there that it's trendy to recycle things and it's not bad to have a dress from someone else."

Miss Chick said since the appeal began, they have received donations such as dresses, suits, shoes and even accessories and vouchers for beauty appointments as well as a chauffeur firm and photography.

After delivering a dress over the weekend, the radio presenter said it is an emotional thing to be involved in.

She added: "We delivered a dress on the weekend and it was great. We've kept everything private because sometimes kids will be cruel and we didn't want to make it about second hand if you don't work, we kept it open to everyone.

"We went to a little girl over the weekend where we took a few dresses down and at the end Lisa was so hysterical crying, she was emotional from it all. That little girl was so grateful and it looked amazing on her.

"To be lucky enough to be in a position to get all these people behind us and support us it's amazing. They don't get that moment we get but it's them helping us, everyone has been amazing.

"It's really emotional, people have probably spent hundreds for these dresses and they are giving them away.

"Imagine being a child and not being able to go to prom."

The pair is asking people who want to make a payment, to make a small donation to Cancer Research UK instead.

Drop off points for the donations are Enbarr in Station Road, Queensferry, as well as the George And Dragon in Church Street, Flint.

People can also drop off donations to the Top Monkey, Northop Hall and the Co-Operative Funeralcare in Connah's Quay.

Donations can also be handed in to Radio Deeside Studio at Deeside Leisure Centre on Saturdays between 8am and 10am, as well as Sundays between 7pm and 9pm.

Lynne said: "We can collect too. Anyone can contact us to see the dresses and it's all private and confidential.

"We don't want people to be embarrassed, we want people to feel positive. It's not about what we have and don't have, everyone in life at some point needs help."
