A FIRE that has broken out on the same Llantysilio hillside that burnt for 30 days last summer has been ruled as a 'controlled fire' according to North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

A Tweet was sent out this afternoon to say there were aware of a plume of smoke in the area and an officer would be investigating.

The Tweet said: "We are aware of the smoke plume in the #Llantysilio area and an officer will be investigating. Avoid repeat calls please. Thanks for your assistance.

Exclusive images taken for the Leader just after 3pm show both fire and smoke on the hillside.
A spokesperson from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has said:

"Obviously it's attracting a lot of attention because of the great fire that happened there last year but we can confirm that the scene has been investigated and it has been deemed as a controlled fire by a local farmer.

"An officer did go out to investigate the incident but no crews were sent out to deal with it.

Firefighters spent 30 days at the scene last year after initially being called to a grass fire at Llangollen on July 19 2018.
