LEX XI - one of the most successful amateur team in North Wales football circles over the years - have resigned from the Welsh National League.

They failed to raise a team for their Premier Division clash with Corwen and they have decided to withdraw from the league.

After their formation in the mid 60’s by a group of Wrexham solicitors, they won every honour possible in the late Eighties and early Nineties.

Club Chairman Mike Davies said: “It is with great sadness and regret that I have to inform the league that LexX1 is resigning with immediate effect from the Premier Division of the Welsh National League.

“This is not a decision that we have taken lightly, but we felt that it is the correct and honourable step to take out of respect for the League and all the other clubs, and also our present players.

“Over the last weeks we have suffered an exodus of players to other clubs following the resignation of our manager, and try as we might we have not been able to attract players of the necessary quality.

“To continue as we are would be unfair to our present players, and to the other clubs in the League. Rest assured, this has been a very difficult and painful decision.

“Rest assured, this does not signal the end of Lex and we will look to regroup and start all over again.”
