A BEAUTY pageant star from Wrexham will be raising money for charity by taking part in a fundraiser.

Poppy-Eloise Gordon, who is 14 and attends the Maelor in Penley will take part in an entertainment evening at Brymbo Sports and Social Club on February 23 to raise money for the Christie Cancer Charity.

Poppy will also be taking part in the Galaxy UK pageant finals later this year, which will take place in Chorley on March 9.

The fundraiser later this month is one of many charitable causes undertaken by Poppy-Eloise.

In the past, she has participated in local events including the Wrexham Christmas lights switch on and also donated to several charities in Wrexham such as Ty Nos homeless shelter and Cat Protection.

She has also been competing in pageants since October 2017 where she entered the Junior Miss Wrexham Galaxy, during which she raised just under £3,000.

In the competition final in March 2018 Poppy placed 2nd runner-up, which has spurred her on do to even better this year. A win at this year's event will grant Poppy the prestigious title of Junior Miss Galaxy UK and she will be sent all expenses paid to Orlando, Florida in August to compete for the international title of Junior Miss Galaxy.

Poppy-Eloise's father, Thom said: "As a parent nothing could make me prouder than my daughter getting involved in the local community and raising money for a cancer charity.

"My daughters words are 'cancer one way or another effects us all' and that’s so correct. We have had many family members suffer from cancer, in the last few weeks alone a very close relative, her great grand-mother that she is close with, has sadly been diagnosed with terminal cancer so makes all the fundraising just that little bit more important to her and the rest of us.

"Poppy has always been a very shy and timid girl when she first meets people but her true character always comes out very quickly afterwards and since doing pageantry her confidence has grown vastly. She is very kind and caring, lots of fun and a pleasure to be around.

"She makes me, her mum Emily Feast and the rest of our family very proud in all her endeavours and we all wish her the very best of luck for her Galaxy UK finals In March."

All proceeds from the night will be donated to The Christie Cancer Charity.

Ticket prices are £15 for adults, £10 for children and under 12s are free. Tickets can be purchased at Brymbo sports complex, online at Eventbrite or by contacting Thom Gordon on 07730 368 108.
