STAFF and student support is a top priority, a new deputy headteacher has said.

Ysgol Treffynnon welcomed its new deputy headteacher at the start of the year and he said he plans to help support the school on its journey to achieving excellence throughout.

Chris Colbert began his career 14 years ago at Rhosnesni High School in Wrexham as a physics teacher before moving to Ysgol John Bright, Llandudno to become deputy head of science.

He said his main priorities for the Holywell school are to support staff to deliver high quality teaching and learning experiences and create ambitious students with the confidence and skills needed to succeed.

Mr Colbert added: "I am very excited to be joining such a dedicated and hardworking team at Ysgol Treffynnon and am looking forward to helping the school take the next step in its journey to become excellent.

"The school is fortunate to have excellent facilities and a highly skilled and enthusiastic staff. Since joining I've been impressed by the friendly nature of the students and I'm looking forward to working closely with all members of the school community."

Before moving to the Holywell high school, the deputy head was promoted to Head of Sixth Form at Ysgol John Bright, leading the school to achieve its best ever A-Level results and establishing its place in the top ten per cent of centres across England and Wales in terms of value-added outcomes.

John Weir, headteacher at Ysgol Treffynnon, added: "Chris was an outstanding candidate for the role of deputy headteacher, and the governors and I are delighted to have him on board.

"He has a great range of both subject and management expertise and expects nothing but the highest standards from staff and students. Combined with his drive and enthusiasm, Chris has all the attributes the school requires to ensure our students receive the highest standard of education to reach their full potential.

"I look forward to working with Chris to achieve our goal of improving performance."
