SOCIAL media users have had their say on a town's pothole issues.

Earlier this week the Leader reported on concerns that someone could be injured as a result of deep potholes in a number of Buckley roads.

Councillors David and Carol Ellis said they have received numerous complaints over the issue and called on Flintshire Council to sort it as soon as possible.

Readers took to the Leader's Facebook page to have their say.

Julian Young posted: "It’s a nationwide problem guys. Government should fund more councils I’m afraid," while Kevin Jones said: "Everyone should stand their ground - car tax is to pay for the upkeep of the roads.

"If everyone stopped paying the tax, they would soon be out with there shovels."

Paula Duffy said: "There are a lot of roads like this around Wrexham.

"More should be done to fix the problem. They are not safe to drive on and damaging our cars.

"If our cars were in this state they would be scrapped."

Nicola Jayne Gaffney Darlington said: "It’s not just Buckley. They're like this everywhere. The back lanes of Borras are terrible."

Alicia Roderick added: "Me and my son have both had to have both front wheel bearings done because of all the potholes."

Following the concerns over the potholes Steve Jones, chief officer for streetscene and transportation at Flintshire Council, said: “During winter months potholes will always form on the highway network and the service would encourage people to bring our attention to such defects during periods of bad weather, through the Streetscene Contact Centre (01352 701234).

"Streetscene coordinators inspect the entire highway network on a routine basis and will rectify defects reported and identified through theses inspections, following a risk assessment process. This process balances safety issues with the availability of resources and the weather conditions, to undertake both temporary and permanent reinstatements.

"Because of the weather conditions encountered during the winter months, it is not always possible, nor advisable to carry out a costly permanent repair and a temporary reinstatement is used in some circumstances to remove the hazard, before more permanent works can be programmed for the location. "The permanent repairs are programmed for this area of Buckley later this week.”
