PARENTS who suspect their children could be using BB guns for ‘irresponsible’ purposes should dispose of the toys, a police chief has said.

The advice comes after a “targeted” attack on a group of teenagers in Buckley on Monday evening.

North Wales Police confirmed that four teenage males were assaulted by other teenagers early evening on February 11 on Victoria Road near Home Bargains and resulted in one male attending hospital with minor injuries.

Inspector Darren Whibberley, of the South Flintshire policing team, said despite the fact that it was not a fire arm, local residents raised concerns that it could still cause serious harm.

He told the Leader: "It is believed a low powered BB gun was used to assault a male.

"We believe these teenagers were targeted for a specific reason and are not random attacks.

"We are working with the victims and are following numerous enquiries to identify both the vehicle and its occupants.

"It's important to note it was a BB gun and not a section one firearm as people may have first feared. That's not to say a BB gun can't cause harm if used irresponsibly.

"Unfortunately these types of toys are readily available and I would urge parents who are aware of their child being in possession or likely to be using them irresponsibly to dispose of them."

The Inspector said they are looking for three males and one female who drove off in a silver Ford Focus.
