INSPECTORS have given the thumbs up to a Wrexham care home where “serious shortfalls” had previously been found.

Following an inspection last September the Care Inspectorate Wales served one non-compliance notice on the owners of Plas Rhosnesni, which accommodates 66 people with dementia.

The failing related to staff training and record-keeping, and in their report, published in November, the inspectors said: “The prescribed systems and processes to enable proper oversight of the management, quality, safety and effectiveness of the service are not rigorous.

“The impact on people is that they may receive poor quality care and live in a service where risks are not appropriately managed.”

When they revisited the home in November to check on what progress had been made the inspectors found that immediate action had been taken.

Staff have now completed training in manual handling and life support, documentation and dealing with challenging behaviour.

“People benefit from a service where staff are well-led, supported and trained,” says the latest report.

“As the provider has responded positively to our findings the non-compliance notice has been removed.”
