MUSIC fans in Wrexham have dealt a serious blow with the news its most iconic venues will close its doors this week.

The Live Rooms Wrexham, on Hill Street, which for many years was known as Central Station, only re-opened in December following a significant refurb, but will close its doors for the final time on Saturday, February 9.

Central Station had originally closed in September 2018, before being rebranded as a sister venue to The Live Rooms in Chester and included the creation of an entirely new room and marked its new lease of life with a gig by Welsh indie icon Gruff Rhys on December 7.

A statement released on the venue's Facebook page said: "Unfortunately it’s with a heavy heart that we have to announce that as of 9th February the venue will be closing its doors for the very last time.

"Like many other venues up and down Wales in recent years, the crippling financial pressures involved in running a grassroots new music venue without external support has made it extremely challenging and unfortunately it has become unsustainable for us to carry on."

The much storied venue was due to mark its 20th anniversary in 2019, but instead the lights will go out, with a further announcement in the coming days as to what will happen with shows that have already booked, including performances by Sleafod Mods, The Slow Readers Club as well it being listed as one of the main venues for Focus Wales 2019, which takes place in May.

The statement added: "And finally, a massive thank you for all of your support over the last 20 years. It’s been an absolute pleasure putting on the shows, and a lot of fun - hopefully you’ve enjoyed them too."

For those wanting to come and say goodbye to the venue, this weekend will be the last chance for them to do so.
