DEMOLITION workers have begun to tear down a 400-year-old Flintshire pub.
Earlier this month the Leader reported how approval was given for the demolition of the Boars Head Inn in Ewloe in order to make way for apartments for over 55s.
The Leader visited the site on Thursday afternoon to find workers had erected scaffolding around the site and started to knock the building down.
While the front of the pub remains largely intact, progress has been made in demolishing the rear section of the structure, as well as work to dismantle the roof.
The plans went before politicians for a second time this month after they were deferred in November because of concerns about the appearance of the development.
Joint applicants Anwyl Construction and Pennaf Housing chose to redesign the structure and the majority of councillors chose to vote in favour.
The site will largely be taken up by a new three-storey building, which will be prioritised for people with mobility issues.
In total 28 apartments and three affordable houses will be built on the site.
