SCHOOLS from across the region ditched the classroom for a fitness session at a local gym.

More than 80 schoolchildren took part in the martial arts event at Toe2toe gym in Holywell.

Dragonsports, which is a Welsh Government funded initiative, organised the event on Tuesday.

Coordinator Steve Thomas said: “We are making kids more aware of what is on offer in the area and for kids who aren’t interested in mainstream sports, we are offering alternatives.”

Toe2toe owner and founder Matt Inskip was approached by Dragonsports to host the event.

He said: “There was a massive response from schools, everyone had a good workout and it was a big success.”

Students from Flint High School were on hand to assist with the activities which included, mixed pad work, bag work, boxercise and hurdle exercises. The students are part of the Little League Sports sports coaching course.

The event was set up to encourage more children into sports. Dragonsports runs different sports festivals, including football, hockey and netball.
