A MAN from Wrexham threatened to smash a woman’s window after rumours were spread that he was having an affair with her, a court was told.

Christopher Watson, 32, approached Kayton Olivia Wright on Prince Charles Road, Caia Park and told her: “I will pay someone to smash your windows. I will do damage that will give you nightmares.”

Prosecutor Anouska Youds said: “Another man called 'Smiffy' had asked her (Ms Wright) for a date which is the reason why the defendant was aggressive with her.”

Defence solicitor Steven Edwards explained the confusion that had ensued and had ended with Watson’s relationship breaking up and him having to move from his flat in Prince Charles Road to his mother’s home.

“It appears that unknown to him (Watson) she was asked out by a gentleman called 'Smiffy'.

"A rumour then got around that the person who had asked her out was a man called 'Chrissy' which is the nickname of my client.

“That rumour got back to his long-term girlfriend, causing great upset.

"He ended up having something of a breakdown and he is now living with his mum.

“It was very difficult for him for months as a result of this rumour, which he believed was put out maliciously.”

But Mr Edwards stressed: “There was no damage caused.”

Watson, of Bryn Issa, Bridge Street, Pen-y-Bryn, Wrexham admitted threatening to damage property on December 8 and failing to surrender to custody at Wrexham Magistrates Court on January 24 where he was due for trial.

He was convicted in his absence and appeared for sentencing at North East Wales Magistrates Court in Mold.

He received a 12-month conditional discharge and was placed under a one-year restraining order.

Magistrates also fined him £40 for failing to surrender and ordered to pay £300 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
