DRIVERS have been warned to take extra care due to 'treacherous conditions'.

On Tuesday the Leader reported how heavy snowfall left roads in Flintshire hazardous.

A weather warning for ice from the Met Office came into effect that afternoon and is due to last until 11am on Wednesday. It covers most of North Wales, as well as Chester.

North Wales Police stated on Tuesday night: "Please take care when driving on the roads in Flintshire especially the Holywell area. Expect treacherous driving conditions due to snow."

A spokesman for the force also warned drivers of pockets of ice on the A55, including in the Halkyn area, adding that gritters had been deployed.

The Met Office has said to expect ice on some roads, pavements and cycle paths.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Ice will form in places later on Tuesday afternoon and overnight into Wednesday, especially where wintry showers leave surfaces wet. "Further hail, sleet and snow showers are also likely at times. Accumulations of several centimetres are likely in places, mainly above 200 metres."
