THEY say there are plenty of fish in the sea, but six people looking for love will be going one step further by enjoying underwater blind dates at the Blue Planet Aquarium's famous shark tank.

The three daring couples will take the plunge on January 26 – literally – by diving into the four-million-litre tank surrounded by sharks in their quest for romance.

Six people have been selected from more than 300 daring singles looking for love this January, and will lock eyes in the Cheshire Oaks attraction's famous shark tank.

They will have the chance to come face-to-fin with Blue Planet’s resident underwater giants, experience what it’s like to swim with sharks, scuba dive, and learn all the secret underwater codes that divers use to speak to each other.

The event – named First Dives – will be a first for the daters, and a world-first too.

The team from the Cheshire attraction has filtered through hundreds of applications to find what they hope will be three perfect matches, and have meticulously planned a unique and memorable first date.

Daters will don wetsuits and scuba gear and take the plunge into the main tank. Some of the divers have never dived before, and none of them have ever come face-to-face with sharks.

Daring daters lining up to take the plunge include an adrenaline-seeking stunt woman, a cheesy pint-loving lady who has been known to make boys cry, and a two-step dancing, self-proclaimed 'Yes Man'.

If they make a splash under the water, they’ll be able to continue their date for a cosy dinner, where they’ll be able to get to know one another on solid ground.

Phil Jones, marketing co-ordinator for Blue Planet Aquarium, described the First Dives experience as: “A fun way to bring people from the local community together and launch a 'new wave' of blind-dating that will hopefully create some perfect matches!"
