FRIENDS of a man undergoing treatment for a rare form of cancer have helped raise thousands in just days.

They launched an appeal for donations following having their heads shaved in support of Mark Newton, 31, who is battling a rare bone cancer.

Mark, from Flint, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in November of last year, and has been receiving treatment since.

To support Mark, who has lost his hair following chemotherapy, his friends have braved the shave and chosen to go bald as part of an appeal which has been launched by Mark to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support in their fight against the disease.

The idea came from Mark's friend Ashley Pickford, who suggested that friends should nominate one another once they have had their own head shaved.

And in just three days, over £6000 has incredibly already been raised. Sam Catherall, who owns Sam’s Barbershop in Flint, has also stepped in to offer free head shaves for those involved in the appeal.

Andy Woollam, who has helped set up the appeal, paid tribute to how Mark deals with having the disease.

He said: “It’s just an inspiration to see how Mark has and continues to deal with it. He never moans and is always smiling, he just gets on with it.

“We wanted to show some support for him by having our heads shaved and in the process raise some money, so we set up a GoFundMe page and it’s just taken off from there.

“The level of interest we’ve had has been incredible and never did we expect so much to be raised in such a short space of time, it just shows how generous most people are.

“We just want to help him as much as we can and reach as wider an audience as possible because he truly deserves it.”
