A FLINTSHIRE drink driver crashed his car when he had his two children in the vehicle.

The Peugeot 208 ended up on its roof in Greenfield Road, Greenfield.

But fortunately, while the children were taken to hospital as a precaution, no one was hurt, North East Wales Magistrates’ Court at Mold was told yesterday.

Paul Flemington, 37, of Chester Road, Oakenholt near Flint, admitted driving with 231 miligrammes of alcohol in his blood compared to the legal limit of 80.

He was banned from driving for 27 months, and placed on a 12 month community order with 15 days rehabilitation.

Flemington was also fined £750 with £85 costs and a £85 surcharge.

Prosecutor Anouska Youds said that on November 12 police received a report of a two vehicle collision.

The defendant’s vehicle was found on its roof.

She said that the defendant’s two children were in the vehicle at the time.

They were taken to hospital as a precaution but no injuries were reported.

The defendant also attended hospital and a blood sample was taken.

A probation officer said that day the defendant had a few drinks and had no plans to go out.

But he received a call from his ex partner asked him to take the children to Holywell and he agreed.

Flemington was said to be very remorseful and knew he had made a bad decision to drive.

Since his ten year marriage broke down last summer he accepted his alcohol consumption had increased.

He had referred himself for counselling.

Defending solicitor Patrick Geddes said his client realised how foolish he had been.

He should not have driven but agreed to do so to avoid an argument.

District Judge Gwyn Jones said that he had driven when he had a substantial amount of alcohol in his system and he put the welfare of others at risk.

It was fortunate for him that the two children came out of it unharmed.
