A WOMAN from Wrexham thinks the council should do more to protect its car parks.

Lulu Brand lives in the town centre and parks her car in the council run car park on Crescent Road. She paid £200 for a six month park pass at the car park, so was dismayed earlier this month to find her car missing.

After getting in touch with police, Lulu found out that her car had been smashed up by vandals and towed away to a local garage.

Lulu now wants a refund on the final month of the parking pass and is frustrated with the lack of dialogue with Wrexham Council.

Lulu said: “The car park is always quiet at night time. I can only imagine they saw my car was one of the only ones there and they decided to break in. I don’t know for sure if it happened at night time but that would make more sense as it is a busy car park during the day. They didn’t even take anything though - there was absolutely no reason for it. I’d have understood if I’d have left something valuable in the car but there was nothing in there.

“I pay £200 for six months of parking. I would definitely expect better security for that cost. I live in a flat right in the town centre and there are no free parking options apart from outside peoples houses so I figured a parking pass would guarantee me a space and security without bothering other people and taking their spaces outside their homes.

“The council told me that they didn’t have my contact details to contact me when this happened, which is why I didn’t find out about it until I went to pick up my car a few days later and it wasn’t there. Their system must be terribly flawed as when I applied and paid for this parking pass, two of the mandatory fields I had to fill in were my email address and phone number.”

A spokesperson for Wrexham Council said “While we sympathise with any victim of theft, it is clearly noted at all of our car parks that we accept no responsibility for loss or damage to vehicles parked in our car parks, or their contents.”
