EMERGENCY services responded to reports of a distress signal on the River Dee off the coast of Bagillt.

The Flint Coastguard team, along with Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team, scrambled to reports of a PLB (Personal Location Beacon) activation shortly after 10.30am, only for it to be a device triggered at a local skip.

The Flint Team had proceeded to Greenfield and then onto Bagillt, whilst the Wirral Team concentrated their search near the Neston area. The RNLI Hoylake Lifeboat Station Hovercraft also tasked to assist with the search, who searched from the Wirral all the way to Bagillt.

A Coastguard Helicopter from Caernarfon was also flown in and once on scene was able to triangulate an area using its equipment onboard. This led to further enquires to a local scrap yard with an old vessel on site which was investigated by Flint Coastguard Rescue Officers, with nothing found.

Shortly after, Holyhead CGOC (Coastguard Operations Centre) had received further information from a local skip site who confirmed they had found a device in a skip. The Flint Team proceeded and confirmed this was in fact the device in question.

All units were subsequently stood down.
