A PLANNING application for up to 600 new homes on land south of Holt Road, near the town centre, has been submitted to Wrexham Council.

The proposals, submitted by planning and design consultancy Barton Willmore on behalf of Barratt Homes and Bloor Homes North West, will deliver new homes in a range of styles and sizes, including detached, semi-detached, and terraced properties offering two, three and four bedrooms.

Affordable properties will also make up to 40 per cent of the homes, helping first time buyers and young families onto the housing ladder.

The application forms part of a wider development area, which is proposed for allocation by Wrexham Council as suitable for the construction of up to 1,680 new properties within its emerging Local Development Plan, which the council submitted for examination by the Welsh Government in November.

It has been estimated that the borough needs to allocate land for at least 8,525 homes over the next 15 years to keep up with the growing population.

In addition to up to 600 new properties, the plans include open space, play provision, public footpaths, and links to the cycle network, encouraging people to rely less on cars and to be active.

It is hoped that if the proposals are granted, the development will also provide an economic boost for shops and businesses in the area through an increase in the number of people living and spending locally.

It is anticipated that the construction project will create more than 300 jobs, including opportunities for young people through training and apprenticeship programmes.

The submission of the application follows extensive public consultation, which saw 131 individuals provide their feedback.

Simon Artiss, planning manager at Barratt Homes said: "We are delighted to submit our plans for the construction of up to 600 new homes in Wrexham, including affordable homes for local people.

"The land south of Holt Road is supported by the local authority as a location for new residential development in its emerging Local Development Plan, and our proposals will help meet the housing demand in Wrexham.

"The partnership between Barratt Homes and Bloor Homes North West brings together expertise and a track record for delivering new, high-quality homes across the UK.

"With two developers enlisted we will deliver a high quality development, with a considerate approach to the local area.”

The application is expected to be determined by Wrexham Council’s planning committee in the coming months
