THE FORMER governor of HMP Berwyn has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Prison Service.
Russ Trent, a former Royal Marine, was suspended as director of the prison last Autumn amidst allegations against him.
Although the exact nature of the allegations were never made clear, his suspension meant that he was unable to see out his role is Governor of the prison..
New governor Nick Leader will take over in April, as was the plan regardless of the allegations.
The Prison Service confirmed that Mr Trent will return to work, although at this stage they could not say what role he will take up.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Following an investigation into allegations made against Russ Trent, no formal disciplinary action will be taken and Mr Trent will return to work in the Prison Service.”
