A CHILD is in critical condition in hospital after he was struck by a hit and run driver in Saltney on Sunday afternoon.

Police launched a manhunt for the driver of the vehicle, which failed to stop after the collision which left the child with serious injuries.

The Force later confirmed thay had arrested a local man in connection with the incident and added that a 10-year-old boy had been taken to hospital where his condition is described as 'critical'.

The collision happened on Park Avenue in Saltney at 4.19pm, when a grey Ford Fiesta collided with the boy and failed to stop. The vehicle has been located and will be forensically examined.

Enquires are underway, and officers investigating are extremely keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have information regarding the incident.

Park Avenue is expected to remain closed for some time.
