AN EYESORE car park in Wrexham has once again been branded as “shocking” by a concerned member of the public.

The Leader ran a story at the beginning of October last year about the apparent drug use at the car park and the related paraphernalia that was a discarded at the scene, with members of the public having to step across it on a daily basis.

Richard Thomas Jones, who lives in Chester but commutes to Wrexham five/six times a week for work, said he has seen “people injecting” and found needles next to this car when he gets out and sent us these shocking images.

He said: “I am mostly alone, but occasionally with my partner and I’ve had to warn them to look down before stepping out of the car.

“I’ve also seen people sleeping amongst the needles in the very far corner. At the last count there were 23 needles scattered most still with needle tips attached.”

Despite comments from the council in October saying they would liaise with its Community Safety Team and the Police about the ongoing issue, the carpark, which is privately owned and operated, continues to cause significant alarm and distress to the public.

Mr Jones added: “I have heard a rumour that the far end of the car is getting boxed off to discourage the rough sleeping but when and if it happens is a mystery.

“As far as I’m concerned, its a grave risk to the public.”

Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for environment and transport, said: “St Mark’s car park is operated privately. I, too, have raised concerns today following posts regarding this matter on social media, and I have raised the matter with our Community Safety Team to liaise with the police and Town Centre staff – clearly, this is not acceptable.”

The current operator of the carpark, ParkingEye Ltd, are based in Chorley, Lancashire, after they took over the role from Britannia Parking Group in September 2018; however ParkingEye Ltd themselves are now owned by a multinational called Macquarie Group, who have not provided any comment.
