A WREXHAM choir is raising funds so they can sing in front of a packed Stadio Olimpico ahead of Wales' Six Nations clash with Italy.

Members of Cantorion Sirenian Singers have been invited to Rome in order to represent Wales by singing 'Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau' Anthem at the 70,000 capacity Rome venue on February 9 next year.

But the trip has been in jeopardy due to the high costs with the choir having to raise around £500 per chorister to cover flights and accommodation with prices soaring in the Italian capital over the weekend of the big game.

They set up a Crowdfunder appeal and have called for sponsorship from businesses, while also searching for potential grants to cover their expenses.

Choir member Jacqui Blore said: "We are thrilled to have been invited back to Rome to represent Wrexham and Wales by singing the Welsh National Anthem on the Stadio Olimpico pitch, but we need help getting there.

"We are actively seeking sponsorship deals to enable the choir to travel to Rome and are appealing for companies to contact us they can help."

It has been a busy year for the choir, who were formed in 1990 by conductor Jean Stanley Jones MBE.

Members took part in the 70th anniversary celebrations of the NHS at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in July. The Big NHS Singalong Live included ‘The Classical Collection’ concert at the Pavilion in which they performed alongside pianists Vicky Yannoula and Peter Jablonski.

The singers were also in Rome performing a series of concerts during the Armistice celebrations to mark the end of World War 1.

For their latest trip to Italy individuals are invited to donate, any amount, no matter how small.
