A POPULAR community hub is home to a new defibrillator.

The Glyn Wylfa Development Trust site in Chirk is the location of the new defibrillator apparatus after the board decided to offer the facility to the community in a meeting last year.

The addition of a defibrillator comes after a development to an abandoned garage behind the café which has been turned into an office block.

Mick Ramsey, chairman of the Glyn Wylfa board, said: “We had a meeting and spoke about how we wanted to provide an important community facility in Chirk.

“Someone mentioned the idea of getting a defibrillator and the board decided it would be a great idea.

“We decided to have it situated on the exterior of the building so it’s available 24 hours of the day.

“Hopefully, it is something that doesn’t need to be used at all, but it’s there if it is needed, which is reassuring.

“Even if it’s used only once, it pays for itself.

“If needs be, it could save lives.”

Chirk councillor Terry Evans added: “It’s so important that the community has accessible defibrillators for 24 hours of the day.

“It’s important to know that if someone is having a heart attack, they can be directed by the ambulance service to the nearest facility available.

“The community in Chirk has been very supportive of getting more defibrillators.”
