PUPILS penned their names on their Gwersyllt school’s new extension.

They joined in with staff at a signing ceremony at Gwersyllt Community Primary School to mark the end of the first phase of construction at the Dodds Lane site.

Senior staff, pupils, officials, governors and local councillors were allowed to sign a steel beam, which forms part of the framework of the new addition to the school which is due for completion in September.

The work will allow the school to amalgamate its separate infant and junior buildings onto a single site.

The new build houses a flexible learning zone which is designed to meet the needs of the new Curriculum for Wales and the Digital Competence Framework.

There is a state-of-the-art wireless audio-visual system which will allow teachers and pupils to collaborate on multiple devices and platforms on any screen across the school.

Cllr Phil Wynn, lead member for education at Wrexham Council, said: “I’m very pleased to mark this stage of the works at Gwersyllt CP School, and staff and pupils alike are very positive about the benefits that the new extension will bring. I look forward to seeing the additional site completed in 2019.”

Half of the work is being funded from the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools fund, with the rest of the costs met by Wrexham Council.

Kasia Pugh, engagement manager for builders Read Construction said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Wrexham Council to deliver this scheme and are committed to involving the local community.”
