A MAN accused of squirting fuel over his former girlfriend and her brother – and also stabbing the brother – has been remanded in custody.

Jack Thomas, 26, was originally granted bail at a weekend sitting of North East Wales Magistrates Court at Mold, but was arrested by police a few hours later for breaching his bail.

Thomas, of Nant y Coed, Pen Y Maes, Holywell, had been bailed to his sister’s address at Abbots Walk in Holywell but when that address was checked out it was found to be sheltered accommodation and the elderly resident was unaware of the defendant.

Solicitor Victoria Handley, defending, said her client rang the police when he realised he had got his sister’s address wrong and described it as a technical breach.

She reapplied for bail and said Abbots Walk became Bryn y Gwynt as the road continued through the estate and Thomas had been unaware of that.

But prosecutor Helen Tench said the sister’s address at Bryn y Gwynt was too close to where the complainants lived and the police would object to any bail address in Flintshire.

She applied successfully for a remand in custody.

Thomas is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm on his former girlfriend Chloe Burgess amid allegations that on the evening of Boxing Day he squirted fuel, said to be petrol, at her.

He is charged with wounding David Jonathan Burgess, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm, amid allegations that he was squirted with fuel, and was stabbed.

Mr Burgess suffered three puncture wounds to his elbow, back and leg.

The defendant is further charged with possessing a bladed article and possessing an offensive weapon, a bottle said to contain the fuel.

Thomas was arrested at his home following the incident at The Feathers Inn at Whitford Street in Holywell on Boxing Day.

He will next appear at Mold Crown Court on January 25.
