FLINTSHIRE Council is being urged to take part in a scheme which aims to reduce vulnerability.

Bars across Wrexham are taking part in the 'Ask for Angela' scheme where people can discreetly ask for help by asking for Angela at the bar and it is hoped venues across Flintshire will do the same.

Cllr Bernie Attridge, deputy leader at Flintshire County Council, told the Leader that he will be taking this forward to the Council in the hopes that the county will take on the initiative.

The aim is that by using the codeword, staff are alerted to the situation and can offer help. This then reduces sexual violence and vulnerability by providing customers with a discreet way to gain assistance from staff in order to get help when they feel unsafe.

Once alerted, staff can then call a taxi, contact their friends or family or ensure the individual causing distress leaves the venue.

Cllr Attridge put forward a Notice of Motion and he said in an email to the Council: "I have noticed and been impressed with a scheme that WBC are rolling out. It is a scheme encouraging people to discreetly ask for help by going to the bar to "ask for Angela" the aim is that by using the code word people who are feeling vulnerable on a night out or a date can approach bar staff and as for Angela.

"The initiative aims to reduce sexual violence and vulnerability by providing customers with a discreet way to gain assistance. I would be very grateful is you could help with a form of works to support a valid NOM (Notice of Motion)."
