The Reds - who currently train at Nine Acre Field - announced on Friday that that they been working with Wrexham Council to identify a potential new site for a new purpose-built training venue.
The council have supported the club's proposal for a new long term training ground to be developed at the former Groves School in the centre of town.

Subject to approvals, addressing current conditions and legal requirements for the site, it is hoped that they could begin training at the Groves site as early as 2020.
The proposal is to create a purpose built training venue that would include two brand new pitches, with one of the pitches modeled on the Racecourse playing surface.
A statement from Wrexham AFC said: "This is the next step in reinstating the infrastructure needed for future success.
"We have been working to build a long lasting positive partnership with Wrexham Council and the Groves site has huge potential for us.
"The proximity to the Racecourse and the town centre location means that Wrexham AFC can remain right at the heart of the town.
"The plans do not include the listed Groves School building itself which will remain an asset in the councils education department, surplus to requirements."
