A MAN has been banned from driving for three years after he was found to have a high quantity of a cocaine derivative in his blood while riding a quad bike.

Jordan Ellis Roberts, 26, was seen by CCTV operators just after midnight on September 4 riding the Yamaha bike.

He was also seen to be drinking alcohol and taking white powder, it was alleged in court.

Roberts was stopped in Priory Street Wrexham and was found to have 703 milligrammes of BZE, compared to the legal limit of 50.

Roberts, of Pendwll Road at Moss, Wrexham, admitted drug driving and in addition to the three year ban he must carry out 160 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12-month community order.

District Judge Gwyn Jones, sitting at North East Wales Magistrates Court at Mold, said there was a significant amount of drugs in his system.

He had been driving in a busy part of Wrexham when there would have been other people about.

Probation officer Pamela Roberts said the defendant claimed to have used drugs two days before the offence and was unaware that they were still in his system.

He disputed that his judgement would have been impaired.

It was his case that he had not used cocaine since but Miss Roberts said he had demonstrated some anti-social views in terms of drug use during interview.

For the last nine years he had worked as a contractor for Airbus where he did up to 60 hours a week and earned a good wage.

The judge said while he was earning good money, the other side of that was that he had money to spend on drugs.

Roberts represented himself but had nothing to say, apart from confirming he would be able to do unpaid work.
