THE annual nativity performance at St Christopher’s Special School in Wrexham was given a thoroughly modern makeover this year.
Mike Roberts, who has been at the school for more than six years and loves music, wrote a script and found songs that matched up to the events that took place more than 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem.
The show started with a rendition and dance sequence to I Will Walk 500 Miles by The Proclaimers, followed by Abba’s I Had A Dream as well as Proud Mary by Tina Turner.

Pupils within the Independent Day Living Department (IDL) delighted the audience as they strutted their stuff on stage and for those pupils unable to speak, specialist ‘talkers’ were programmed to narrate the story of Mary and Joseph travelling to Bethlehem.
The show ended with all joining in with Shakin Stevens’ Merry Christmas Everyone.
After the performance Mike Roberts, a keen musician who plays the guitar with the creative flair to devise the play, was presented with a luxury wine hamper by acting headteacher Jeff Eggington and religious education teacher Bhupinder Lace.
Mr Eggington congratulated the cast and crew for all of their hard work and offered sincerest thanks to Mike Roberts for his creativity.
Mike Roberts also wanted to ensure all staff and pupils were acknowledged for their hard work and commitment.
He said: “Claire Jones, one of the class teachers within IDL, did the stage management and costumes.
“Without everyone the show would not have been a success.”
