VANDALS have once again struck at a bowling club and damaged a historical building.

Connah’s Quay Bowling Club has been subject to ongoing issues of criminal damage since the site closed for winter in September.

Damage has been caused to the outside hut, which has been there since 1928.

Club secretary Claire Bullock said it appeared to involve the same issue of youths breaking the door.

She told the Leader: “It’s heartbreaking knowing that they can come in and damage it.

“We are providing amenities for the community and yet we are having to pay to get it fixed.

“We are just trying to keep it as part of the community. We aren’t funded by anyone, we fund ourselves.

“Everything we have, we have raised ourselves and it’s like a kick in the teeth.”

She added: “The building has been there since 1928 and if we replace something it loses a part of its history.

“Before the main building was built, that’s all we had over there. It’s the monument of the club.”

The club secretary said CCTV shows a group of youths climbing over the fences and has happened about four times.

She added: “We have a work team who come and do jobs so even though we are shut, that’s how we have been noticing the damage.

“They are climbing over the fence and we don’t want them to get hurt.

“It just looks as if they are having cigarettes.

“There’s nothing there to pinch and it just looks like they are sitting there to get out of the cold.

“We are having to get locks and bars put on.”

North Wales Police is appealing for information about the damage.

A spokesman for the police force said on Twitter: “Any information please regarding ongoing issues of problems and criminal damage at Connah’s Quay Bowling club in Flintshire.

“Youths forcing their way into the grounds.

“Any names in confidence please. Event W176966 refers.”
