Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Benty Heath Lane at around 7.15am on Wednesday, December 12, following reports a horse had become stuck in a septic tank.

On arrival firefighters discovered the horse - named Lacey - trapped in a septic tank which was around two metres in width.

Crews used a pump to drain the water from the tank.

Vets then sedated the horse so that it could be safely rescued by firefighters.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said that Lacey 'is doing well after a rather smelly ordeal'
