AN under threat Wrexham juice bar has received the unanimous backing and support of the town's residents.

Raw Juice in Rhosddu Road sells a variety of nutrition-based drinks using healthy ingredients.

However, the business is under investigation by Wrexham Council Trading Standards officers who are looking into claims the business is falsely advertising health benefits from the consumption of drinks and shakes.

After the Leader ran the story on Monday, dozens of people have voiced their support for the bar, with owners Gareth and Leanne Roberts saying their customers are so outraged by the Trading Standards intervention that a petition on the change.org website contains more than 1,000 names.

Mrs Roberts said: "This has been going on since May. We have supplied the council with backed up evidence including other juice bar menus that use the exact same names as us.

"One even has a juice called ‘The Hangover Cure’. Not once have we said anything cures anything in our shop.

"We will be sticking to our guns and fighting this the whole way.

"We have got a local councillor on our side who has supported us since day one and we now have a solicitor who’s a customer at our shop who wants to fight for us."

She added: "Gareth has put his life savings into this shop and something he has always been very passionate about and his knowledge on nutrition and how the body works is unbelievable.

"We just want to provide Wrexham with somewhere healthy to visit instead of all the fast food and take-away places and keep putting food on the table for our children.

"It such a shame it’s come to this but we won’t stop fighting it."

Trading Standards officers have asked Mr Roberts to attend an interview under caution at Wrexham Council offices on December 19 to investigate whether offences have been committed under nutrition and food safety legislation.

A council spokesman has said: “It would not be appropriate for us to comment on this matter at this time as it is subject to an ongoing investigation.”

Meanwhile, here are some of the messages of support via the The Leader Facebook page including Shane Swift, who said: "What a waste of public money.

"Does a gut buster breakfast mean your guts will burst?

"Does a sex on the beach mean you will get it?

"What about skinny latte? They don’t say drink six of these and you’ll fit into skinny jeans.

"It’s pathetic. They’re just names.

"Somebody trying to make Wrexham healthier is getting slammed."

Claire Griffiths said: "I had 'pigs in blankets' with a turkey dinner recently.

"It was actually cocktail sausages wrapped in bacon.

"Maybe the council can investigate that?"

Tanya Courtney-Davies said: "What a nightmare for these poor people who are just trying to make a living.

"The council needs to concentrate on more important things like supporting small local businesses, not harassing them."

Mandy Neal said: "You've got to be a special kind of stupid to think that these drinks are claiming to be anything more than healthy drinks with fun names.

"I really hope they don't get fined. Wrexham Council should be supporting small businesses not driving them away."

Keith Davies said: "Does this mean I can take the cocktail bar to court?

"They served me a screaming orgasm last week and although it did slightly arouse me, I felt the title of the drink left me deeply disappointed."
