COMMUNITY leaders are furious that Wrexham Council has allowed a planning application which will turn a house into a seven bedroom home of multiple occupation.

The community council in Offa had opposed the application at 5 Bersham Road in Wrexham.

Cllr Kevin Hughes told a meeting of Offa Community Council: “I think Wrexham’s decision is bonkers – absolutely bonkers.

"It seems the house has safety risks including health and fire issues and we have been ignored.”

Councillors were told there was also vermin infestation in the area too.

County Cllr Alun Jenkins said: “It is galling as, under new HMO guidelines going through, this application would not have been approved.”

The owner of the property successfully applied to convert a utility room into a seventh bedroom

One of the community council members is determined to keep up the opposition.

Cllr Steven Vale, who could not attend the council meeting, said later: “I did not join the community council just to give donations to football clubs.

"I joined to make a difference and when you can’t in this case I feel very frustrated.

"People are paying a high rent for living in a house with real health and safety issues.

"The residents feel they can’t complain for fear of facing eviction.”

The Leader has revealed opposition in a house in Beechley Road, also in Offa.

Residents are annoyed as the owner is appealing against the authority’s decision to refuse an application involving another HMO which is adding to the community council’s concern that the rapid growth of HMOs in the area is responsible for a number of issues.
