A COMMUNITY has celebrated the festive season as residents welcome a real Christmas tree for their local garden.

Residents of Pen y Llan flats in Connah’s Quay were pleased to receive the tree on Monday afternoon, which has been donated by the town council.

Stacey Clowes, resident, said: “It’s very good for the kids, because we do have kids here, and people with disabilities it’s good for them all to get involved.”

The flats had previously been awarded the Vibrant and Viable Places funding to regenerate the area and the community garden was just one of the projects.

Cllr Paul Shotton told the Leader that councillors of Golftyn have been trying for many years to get a Christmas tree in the area and he is pleased to see this happen.

The tree was donated to the garden for the second year running and will stay on show until early next year.

Cllr Gill Faulkner, of Connah’s Quay, said: “I’m very pleased for the tennants who live in the courts, it’s nice for them to be able to see it at night and people going along the main road, they will be able to see it too.”

Pen y Llan flats is home to elderly people, people with additional needs and those in need of rehabilitation and support.

The community room and garden provides a place for people to go in a bid to reduce social isolation.

Dawn Bartram, local resident, said they cannot wait to start decorating the tree.

She added: “It’s lovely. It’s very nice because a lot of people walk past and comment how nice the garden is, so with this tree we will have a hell of a lot more positive comments.”
