Wrexham fans reacted angrily to Sam Ricketts' shock departure for Shrewsbury Town, with many questioning the timing of the move.

The acrimonious switch threatens to derail a solid first half of the National League campaign, with Wrexham currently occupying a play-off spot.

Supporters have drawn parallels with Dean Keates' switch to Walsall last term, which ultimately saw The Reds surrender their promotion chances with an untimely dip in form.

The Racecourse faithful have taken to social media to denounce Ricketts' decision to walk out on his first senior role in management.

Here is a selection of those views taken from the Leader's Facebook and Twitter pages.

Bryn Jones: "Have I missed something? I just don’t get his decision. Strange decision that's for sure. What I saw Saturday we are a fantastic opportunity for any incoming manager. COYR."

Chris Roberts: "No loyalty whatsoever. He said when he took the job that this was a long term project. Bye bye Sammy the snake."

Gareth Robinson: "He's left Wrexham for a smaller club! That says it all! Disappointed more than anything but nobody is bigger than the club! I'm sure we'll get someone even better in!"

Jon Jones: "Good riddance, took the money and ran."

Andy Hughes: "Barrow is the brains anyway. He was the apprentice.Gone to a smaller club who don't have patience with there managers A very wrong turn for his career."
