DESPITE the deluge of rain that hampered the set-up, the 2018 Mold Christmas lights switch-on brought plenty of festive cheer to the hundreds in attendance.

Father Christmas took time out from his very busy schedule to make his way through the throngs of people gathered in Daniel Owen Square shortly before 6.30pm to join the Mayor of Mold, Karen Hodgkinson, in counting down to the moment the cold night sky was illuminated in brilliant white light.

The Christmas lights switch-on event, which took place across the town, including on the High Street, which saw fun fair rides and game stalls packed full of happy families and teenagers, had been under threat earlier in the day as the torrential rain made life very difficult for the many volunteers.

However, town clerk Samantha Roberts was quick to stress that despite the unfortunate drenching, it was a case that the show must go on, with the annual event proving to be as popular as ever.

She said: “Although the rain had really made us question whether we would go ahead, we thought, it’s Christmas, we have to! I’m just glad the rain has finally gone away and am so pleased with the turnout.

“I must give a special thank you to our team of volunteers for all their hard work.”

Entertainment was provided by Mold Town Concert Band, Mold Alun Choir as well as children from both Ysgol Bryn Gwalia and St David Catholic Primary schools and special thanks went to the Rotary Club of Buckley for their continued support.
