A FORMER charity shop looks set to be demolished and replaced with 13 new homes.

It comes as plans to knock down the former Nightingale House Hospice store on Rhosnesni Lane in Wrexham have been backed for approval.

The organisation’s lease on the property ran out in February, leading it to close its doors and relocate.

The building’s owner put forward proposals to bulldoze it in August, along with an adjoining storage unit to build 13 detached and semi-detached houses.

Wrexham Council’s head of planning has now recommended that the application should be green lighted despite six objections from neighbours regarding an increase in noise and pollution and the impact on road safety.

In a report, Lawrence Isted said: “The principle of development is considered to be acceptable and a development of the type proposed is considered could sit comfortably in this location without detriment to visual or residential amenities.

“Resultant impacts to highway safety, ecology and public open space provision are considered to be acceptable.

“I note the comments made by highways about a number of detailed aspects concerning the internal estate road shown on the indicative plan.

“I am nevertheless satisfied that there is sufficient scope to provide an internal estate road that adequately provides for access to and the servicing of the proposed dwellings.”

The granting of permission would be subject to a £13,000 contribution being given by the developers to make improvements to the play area at Acton Park.

In the original planning application, the owner of the land said the shop was in a poor state of repair and the scheme would allow the area to be redeveloped.

In February, Nightingale House announced the unit would be closing and that its staff and volunteers would be relocating to other branches.

The charity, which provides specialist palliative care services, has now opened a new flagship store on the site of the former Boots outlet on Regent Street in Wrexham town centre.

The proposals will be discussed by Wrexham Council’s planning committee next Monday.
