A Wrexham youngster has kindly donated several of her birthday presents to the Leader’s Christmas Toy Appeal.

The Leader has joined forces with the charity North Wales Superkids to gather gifts for children who may otherwise receive none this Christmas.

Ffion Davies, from Rhosnesni, who goes to Borras Park CP School, celebrated her seventh birthday in October and received so many presents that she wanted to give some of them away to children who are less fortunate than herself.

Ffion delivered the presents, which included several games, puzzles and painting sets to the Leader’s office on the High Street with her mother Steph, who said she saw the advert and thought it would be a nice idea to pass some of them on.

Steph said: “Ffion has always been so fortunate because she’s an only child and has always been really spoilt by us.

“It’s really sad to think that there are so many children out there who won’t get anything this Christmas so Ffion decided to try and put a smile on another childs face by giving some of them away.”

The Leader offices in both Wrexham and Mold are accepting donations of new and unwrapped gifts, which will be collected by North Wales Superkids to be given out to families in need.

North Wales Superkids was founded first as a group by Margaret Williams MBE from Flint.

She said: “It is not just about topping up families’ Christmas presents - this is specifically for families where no basic Christmas will be happening.

“We hear about some very sad situations, for example last year - two children aged five and seven-years-old were sat down by their dad, who is self employed.

“Their mum was very poorly and he had to explain Santa wasn’t coming this year simply because he couldn’t earn money and was not entitled to benefits.

“Can you imagine the impact of that on those two little people?

“The children told the teacher, who told the headteacher and they fortunately knew me, so we could do something about it.

“Kids shouldn’t be in this situation. It is a horrendous disgrace. We are not a poor country but child poverty is abysmal.”

North Wales Superkids expects that in order to meet the target of last Christmas, which Mrs Williams said would be a ‘starting point’ for this year, it will need 15,000 new and unwrapped presents.

Donations can be dropped off at the Leader offices on High Street, Wrexham and Wrexham Road, Mold until 4.30pm on Friday, December 14.
