AN ACTRESS who is to feature in a popular BBC television series has spoke of her pride of representing Wales on the small screen.

Ruby Snape, who was born in Wrexham and spent her youth in Trevor near Llangollen has featured in countless TV shows, stage productions and adverts, in the UK and abroad.

"I like being an actor, it's nice appearing in proper shows as opposed to reality television.

"I went to school at Dinas Bran and did a lot of plays there and I was also part of Cefn Mawr amateur dramatics society.

"Clwyd Youth Theatre when I was 14 was where I really started, with all the other wannabe actors from North Wales. After that I studied at the Guildford School of Acting down in London.

"I did mainly theatre to begin with and eventually started moving towards TV. One of my favourite roles was as the Welsh PE teacher in the Grimleys. She was a really fun character and as the show went on the producer would begin to write lines around her.

Ruby is proud of her Welsh roots though and after living in London for several year, moved to Ruabon three years ago. Now she is encouraging new talent to persevere and get noticed, although it is not an easy task.

"I'd just like to encourage Welsh girls to get into acting. The hurdle is to get seen. Dealing with rejection is okay, it's having the opportunity to be rejected that's hard.

"Now I'm a jobbing actor. I've been on things like Casualty, the Bill, Coronation Street. The usual shows. I've done some West End shows as well, Ducktastic at the Albery Theatre directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh and Don't Dress for Dinner at the Duchess Theatre directed by Peter Farago.

"I've also appeared in films such as Byzantium directed by Neil Jordan and Parting Shots directed by the late Michael Winner.

Her latest venture is to play the character of Vanessa Vernon in prime time's Holby City, although she can't say too much about the part.

"It's a nice guest role, I play the wife of Saul Vernon. She's caught in a bit of a love triangle, and quite jealous. She has a bit of a row in the episode but I can't say too much more without giving it away."

Ruby Snape will appear in Holby City on Tuesday 27 on BBC One at 8pm.
