A VILLAGE has suffered a rise in crime, with six property burglaries being recorded in just one month.

The figures, announced at a meeting of Llay Community Council, revealed that four homes and sheds were broken into, along with a further premises.

A building site was targeted in another incident which resulted in a boiler being stolen.

Police Community Support Officer Andrew Harris said the thefts underline the importance of both home and business owners ensuring their properties are made safe and protected, particularly over the upcoming festive period.

He said: “We have had a bit of a rise really, which in some ways we expect at this time of year, with break-ins in the build up to Christmas.

“When it comes to things like sheds, we don’t think there is much planning going on and they seem to be a lot more spontaneous.”

He added: “North Wales Police have printed some leaflets which provide security advice and although to some it might seem basic, it’s also things that some people might overlook.”

Llay Community Council is hoping to distribute as many of the leaflets as possible over the course of the next couple of weeks in the hope of keeping their community safe and crime free.
