HUNDREDS braved the cold to welcome in the festive season with a Flintshire town’s light switch-on.
The big annual event took place in Flint yesterday evening as families and friends came together to begin the Christmas countdown.
Margaret Williams MBE, founder of the North Wales Superkids, a Flint-based charity, did the honours from the Old Court House on the town’s Church Street.

Superkids is a Christmas appeal which collects and receives donations of new toys which are then distributed in the run-up to Christmas, to children from families living on the breadline, or who are facing social hardship in any form.
The festive proceedings kicked off late in the afternoon at the George and Dragon pub, with plenty of mulled wine and festive cheer.
Hundreds browsed the stalls while families enjoyed the fairground attraction set up all along the street.
Ahead of switching on the lights Mrs Williams said: “This time of year is so important for children at Christmas.
“The toy appeal makes sure there are smiles at Christmas Day instead of tears.
“We all depend very much on yourselves and the help you give at this time of year.
“Thank you Flint.”
