A NESTON restaurant has been named the 'Best Independent Pizzeria in the UK.'

Elephant Bank, based on The Cross, was crowned with the title at a glitzy awards ceremony at the Lancaster Hotel in London on November 16.

Secret diners visited the restaurant around eight months ago to judge them on food, service and atmosphere later finding out that they had made the award shortlisted.

Fast forward to last week and now Elephant Bank is the Best Independent Pizzeria in the UK.

Speaking after the awards, owners Emma and Adam Mitchell said: "We are over the moon. Almost two years ago to this day, we opened the doors to Elephant Bank.

"We had never run a restaurant before and suffice to say it's been a steep learning curve. It has now grown into something we never thought it could be. Every single day we open at Elephant Bank, the chefs and front of house staff are always putting their all in. Even when they're not on shift, these crazy lot are coming in and are doing bits and pieces to make Elephant Bank better."
